DENENDEH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

was created in 1982 by the Dene National Assembly as a not-for-profit Corporation with the goal of building a stronger Dene future and supporting economic, social and cultural development.

The membership of DDC is comprised of the Chiefs of Denendeh. DDC is 100% owned by the Dene of the Northwest Territories. The Dene are the original inhabitants of the NWT and Northern Canada.

NWT METIS-DENE DEVELOPMENT FUND (MDDF)

DDC has a 50% interest in MDDF, established in 1991 by DDC and the NWT Metis, Development Corporation. MDDF provides loans to Northern & Aboriginal businesses. The fund has increased business access to capital and business expertise.

DENENDEH INVESTMENTS LIMITED PARTNERSHIP (DILP) AND DENENDEH INVESTMENTS INCORPORATED (DII)

DDC is a partner in DILP, along with Gwich’in Investment Limited Partnership, Sahtu Dene Council, Dehcho First Nations, vSalt River First Nation, Behchoko Development Corporation, and Akaitcho Territory Government.

DII, the General Partner of DILP, manages the businesses and holds investments in diverse sectors including: Mineral Exploration and Development (DEMCo), Power Generation and Distribution (Northland Utilities Enterprises Ltd.), Facilities Management (Northern Aboriginal Services Company), Communications - Broadband Infrastructure and Deployment (Broadband Business Alliance/Falcon Communications GP Ltd), Pipeline and Highway Construction (Mackenzie Aboriginal Corporation/Aboriginal Contractors Corporation) and Real Estate (Denendeh Manor/6133 NWT Ltd/ and properties in Fort Smith and Norman Wells.), Remediation and Environmental Solutions (iDene) and Food Supply and Distribution, Denendeh Food Services Ltd.

Between 2007-2020, Shehtah Nabors LP will have awarded 108 scholarships totaling $304,000 to descendants of the Dene in Denendeh. Eligible students interested in the $3000 SNLP/Indspire scholarship can apply at www.indspire.ca; deadline each year is August 1, November 1 and February 1. DDC has produced a directory of over 350 NWT Aboriginal Businesses.
