(“Naka Power Utilities”), a joint partnership between Denendeh Investments Incorporated (DII) and ATCO, is proud to receive the Electricity Canada’s prestigious, “2024 Leadership in Community Partners Award.” The award was presented last night at the electricity industry association’s Powering Partnerships summit in Toronto. The national recognition celebrates Naka Power Utilities for its outstanding commitment to community partnerships and highlights the power of collaboration and mutual respect.

Darrell Beaulieu, Chief Executive Officer, DII and Jay Massie, Vice President, Northern Development & Indigenous Relations, ATCO Electric, were joined by ATCO leadership to accept the recognition with their colleagues and peers.

“We take great pride in our Naka Power Utilities partnership and are grateful to be recognized by Electricity Canada,” said Mr. Beaulieu. “The award is a clear reflection of the strength and collaboration between DII and ATCO. Through this partnership, we’ve enhanced infrastructure and strengthened reliability in remote communities.”

“Receiving this award is a testament to the strength and success of our partnership with Denendeh Investments Incorporated,” said Mr. Massie. “Building lasting relationships with Indigenous partners is a hallmark of how ATCO does business, and we are honoured to be recognized for this commitment on a national stage.”

The 37-year partnership between DII and ATCO reinforces the importance of collaboration and being a leader in championing responsible practices and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.

DII first partnered with ATCO in 1987, making it one of the first regulated electric utilities in Canada with Indigenous ownership, and they currently share a 50/50 financial ownership structure. This was ATCO’s first partnership with an Indigenous organization. Since that time, building and sustaining relationships with Indigenous partners has become a core pillar of ATCO’s business.

Currently, ATCO has more than 50 joint-venture partnerships, memorandums of understanding and/or other partnerships with Indigenous communities that supports millions of dollars of economic growth for these communities. ATCO continues to advance new, collaborative models for partnerships with Indigenous Peoples around the world, in the spirit of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

About Naka Power Utilities

Northland Utilities Enterprises Ltd. operates through its subsidiaries, Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife) and Naka Power Utilities (NWT) (collectively “Naka Power Utilities”). Naka Power Utilities is a leading electrical utility serving more than 11,000 customers across nine communities in the Northwest Territories.
Yellowknife, NT (January 24, 2022) — Denendeh Investments Incorporated (DII) has entered into an agreement with an Alberta company, Environmental Air Cleaning Ltd. (EAC) to sell and distribute the Pyure Dynamic Protection® products manufactured by The Pyure Company.

Pyure delivers a hydroxyl-based air purification technology that effectively treats viruses, bacteria, odours and mould, including the COVID-19 virus. “Pyure’s innovative patented technology replicates the way sunlight sanitizes the outdoor environment by safely generating and diffusing hydroxyls and organic oxidants indoors. Hydroxyls are a natural oxidant and the most important cleansing agent in our outdoor environment. Hydroxyls do not exist naturally indoors,” said EAC President Tom Charlton. The technology is deployed through indoor air but also treats hard and porous surfaces. The portable technology safely sanitizes confined air spaces and can be scaled to effectively treat large areas through HVAC integration. EAC has 11 treatment models offering the ability to treat a single room to the largest facility. PYURE has been an indoor air quality leader for 15 years and is rapidly expanding to 13 countries. Hydroxyl Technology is quickly displacing limited traditional air and surface purification and sanitization solutions due to the natural treatment action, proven efficacy, and energy efficiency keeping outdoor air to ASHRAE® requirements.

PYURE’s MDU/Rx™ product is registered with the FDA as a class II medical device. PYURE announced in a recent press release that Innovative Bioanalysis, a U.S. certified, biosafety level 3 laboratory located in California, demonstrated that the PYURE MDU/Rx™ sanitizer reduced airborne SARS-CoV-2 by 99% in 20 minutes and that it was no longer detected in the air after 80 minutes. The US study also showed that on surfaces, the PYURE MDU/Rx™ sanitizer reduced the virus by 99% in one hour and it was no longer detected on surfaces after three hours. Pyure President, Jeremy Peterson, stated, “We are very pleased to have this agreement with DII to build healthier environments to the Indigenous communities and to all DII clients.”
“This is a new area of business for DII,” said Darrell Beaulieu, CEO of Denendeh Group of Companies. “It is our hope that this product improves the safety and health of our buildings and people in this era of pandemics and epidemics, especially in our schools and large institutions where people traditionally gather.”

DII is the general partner for Denendeh Investments Limited Partnership, with units held by the Dene First Nations of the NWT, established by Denendeh Development Corporation in 2007 to create long term economic self-sufficiency for the Dene by engaging in profitable business ventures.

EAC is a private Alberta company and is the Western and Northern Canada distributor for Pyure. PYURE is a private U.S. company that manufactures and markets commercial air purifiers.

PYURE products safely sanitize indoor air and surfaces, delivering dynamic pathogen protection and improved air quality. www.pyureco.com.

“Increasing Dene ownership in Northland Utilities to become equal partners is the logical next
step in a mutually-beneficial business partnership that has grown over three decades,” said
Erasmus adding that the company serves 11,000 customers in nine communities. “We look
forward to exploring the opportunity in having a Dene company serve all Dene communities.”

Northland Utilities is a full-service electrical company that provides retail, distribution,
transmission and generation services in the Northwest Territories (NWT). Dll represents 27
Dene First Nations and 50 per cent of the Aboriginal population in the NWT. Dll was created to
invest in programs and business ventures to help build sustainable communities for its people.

Erasmus said, “These types of business partnerships allow for financial participation in the
NWT’s economy by First Nations and creates real job opportunities for our people.”

The partnership launch, celebrated at noon today at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage
Centre in Yellowknife, was organized under the umbrella of Dll in partnership with ATCO.
