Naka Power

Naka Power (formerly Northland Utilities Enterprises Ltd.) has been lighting up homes and businesses in the Northwest Territories for more than 75 years.  For over 38 years, Naka Power has been part owned by Denendeh Investments Limited Partnership in partnership with ATCo Electric, one of the ATCo Group of Companies. In March 2022, DILP increased their ownership to 50%.

The office in Hay River services Kakisa, Dory Point, Fort Providence, Sambaa K’e, Wekweeti, Enterprise, Hay River, Enterprise and K’atlodeeche First Nation.  Our Yellowknife office provides services to Yellowknife and Ndilo.

Naka Power  is a member of the Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping northerners reduce energy use, as well as a member of the Community Energy Planning group, led by the City of Yellowknife, to develop a comprehensive plan to reduce energy usage in the community.

Northland Utilities has been delivering electricity services in the NWT for more than 60 years. For the last 30 years, Northland Utilities has been part owned by Denendeh Investments Incorporated (DII), representing the 27 Dene First Nations of the Northwest Territories. Effective March 30, 2021, Denendeh Investments Incorporated’s ownership of Northland increased from 14 to 50 per cent, making us equal owners with ATCO. Through this partnership, Denendeh Investments Incorporated is investing in sustainable and long-term business.
